Max Lucado was born in San Angelo, Texas. After graduating from Andrews High School in Andrews, TX, Max earned a BA in mass communications from Abilene Christian University. After receiving his BA, he moved on and earned a MA in biblical and related studies from Abilene. While Max Lucado was raised in a Christian family and was baptized at age 10, he has not always walked the straight path. During his high school years, even after his baptism, Max Lucado choose the ways of the world instead of the ways of God. At one point, he was a heavy drinker, womanizer, and tough guy. Now he recalls how he could drink a whole six-pack and not feel it. However, God turned around Max's life around and called him into full time ministry. Max Lucado's messy past has not gone to waste. It has helped him to realize the incredible grace God has lavished on him in allowing him to be used to change the lives of millions.

Today, with over 33 million copies of his books sold, Max Lucado is one of Christianity's most popular authors. However, Max has not always been seen as a gifted author. His first book, On the Anvil, was rejected by fifteen publishing companies before Tyndale House Publishers agreed to publish it. Even in the midst of the rejection by 15 publishers, Max did not get discouraged.

Max Lucado's relaxing, conversational writing style has set him apart as one of the best authors within the Christian genre. In 1994, Max Lucado became the first author to have 11 of his 12 books appear on the Christian Booksellers Association's (CBA) best seller list. One of Max's books has appeared on the CBA's best seller list every month for the past seven years (as of 2004). In addition, three of Max's books have won Gold Medallion for Christian book of the year. Some of Max Lucado's book titles include It's Not About Me, Experiencing the Heart of Jesus, and Traveling Light. Further, Max has also authored Next Door Savior, Give it All to Him, Just Like Jesus, Grace For the Moment, When God Whispers Your Name, and many other books.

In addition to writing, Max Lucado has been a church planning missionary in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and has served as Associate Minister of Central Church of Christ, Miami, FL. In 1988, at age 33, Max Lucado became an Associate Minister at Oak Hills Church, San Antonio, TX. Today, Max is still preaching sermons at Oak Hills Church, only now he is the Pulpit Minister. He does not receive a salary from Oak Hills, rather he has a special arrangement with the church that allows him to study and write one book a year, while still preaching. Max lives with his wife Denalyn and is the father of three daughters, Jenna, Andrea, and Sara.
